THE ANGELS RESPOND
Hazrat Abu Darda (R) narrates that he heard Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) say: “No Muslim makes Dua for his (Muslim) brother in his absence except that an angel says, ‘And for you the same.’” (Muslim)
Every time a believer sincerely asks Allah for another Muslim's well-being, forgiveness, guidance, or success, an angel immediately makes the same Dua for him.
AN ACCEPTED DUA
In another narration, Hazrat Abu Darda (R) reports that Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The Dua of a Muslim for his brother in his absence is accepted. At his head is an appointed angel. Whenever he makes a Dua for good for his brother, the angel says, ‘Aameen, and may you receive the same.’” (Muslim)
A great opportunity! By praying for others, we are in reality securing the very same blessings for ourselves.
THE FASTEST ACCEPTED DUA
Hazrat Ibn Umar (R) narrates that Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said: “The Dua that is accepted the fastest is the Dua made for another in his absence.” (Abu Dawood, Tirmizi)
This demonstrates the sincerity and purity of such a supplication. Since it is free from selfishness and personal gain, it becomes especially beloved to Allah Ta’ala.
DO NOT FORGET US
Hazrat Umar (R) relates: When I sought permission from Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) to perform ‘Umrah, he granted me permission and said: “Do not forget us in your Duas, O my brother.” Another narration states:“Include us in your du‘as, O my brother.” (Abu Dawood, Tirmidhi)
Regarding this, Hazrat Umar (R) said: “He (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) said such words to me that I would not exchange them for the entire world.”
If Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) encouraged his noble companion to remember him in Dua, then how much more should we remember our parents, families, teachers, neighbours, friends, and the entire Ummah in our supplications?
Making Dua for others is one of the easiest and most rewarding acts of worship. It takes only a few moments, and brings immense benefit both to those for whom we pray and to ourselves.
